This engagement photo taken during our Wedding Class last night with students from the Langara College Continuing Studies Photography Program. This was taken as a demonstration for the students to study their background, which can help build & enhance composition. I saw this bit of a gap between two buildings in the background & decided to put our models in between to highlight their silhouette. I could have easily colour corrected to get the blue light out of the shot but wanted to pay homage to my film days using daylight film where you would get similar effects:)
I have had the privilege of teaching many Wedding & Business photography workshop at some of the most popular photography schools in the city. Each year brings fresh enthusiasm and perspectives from the students taking the Wedding Photography class and I'm pumped for a new term with my students at Langara College Continuing Studies program. I teach this course just once a year at this school. We almost always bring the photoshoot outdoors for variety & lighting techniques so good light & decent weather is always nice to have during these spring & summer months. Classes start next week and if you're enrolled in the program, there is still some spots available for the Monday & Tuesday classes.
I had another great term teaching a very talented group of photographers at VanArts. The wedding workshops and photoshoots can be a challenge for many students not familiar with wedding photography. Particularly challenging this term was shooting in the cold and low lighting conditions during the winter. Often times students are unsure how to pose people, how best to utilize available light or when to use flash. But usually by the end of the workshop, most of the students walk away with smiles and a good selection of images thanks to our incredible models that work with us. They know how to pose, know their angles and are so comfortable in front of the camera that it makes it hard not to get great images because of them. A special shout out to Ava Vanderstarren (thanks for wearing your Mom's lovely vintage wedding dress to all the photoshoots!), Matt Gilroy, Ron Wear, & Emma Mackenzie for doing such a great job modeling for us!
I had a chance to take a few photos from the workshop and these images can be viewed on our Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/YaletownPhotography. A very special thanks to the talented Sandra Morales of The-Favourite/Olivia Headpiecesfor providing the wonderful headpieces andFineFinds Boutiquefor the lovely earrings.
