Ah summer...this year's summer will definitely be a memorable season for many of us with record breaking temperatures & record dry spells. It was wonderful while it lasted, no? I hope all of you got a chance to enjoy the great weather. This summer I also had the privilege of fulfilling two personal projects. From the amazing and incredible photoshoot we produced and shot for the Global Wonders collection to the fun, active lifestyle shots captured for my lifestyle sport photography portfolio, this summer was definitely one for the record books on completed personal projects. Over the years, one of the most important things I've taken away from other freelance creatives is that personal projects are vital to your creative development. And I can't agree more with that statement. Often times when we get bogged down with day to day operations, shooting, and deadlines, it is difficult to juggle everything and the personal projects are usually what gets shelved onto the backburner. Yet it is through these personal projects that creative people allow themselves the freedom to push their creative envelope without expectations...expectations of clients, our audience and of ourselves. That is how we free ourselves to create great work.
One of the many skills I've developed over the years is being able to see my environment through a different lens and a different light. This is most prominent in my location scouting process. I love location scouting for new places and one of the great benefits I've had is that because I enjoy being outdoors running or cycling, I've often stumbled across locations that normally aren't known or seen while driving. Often times through my training I've also had to get up at ridiculous hours of the day and that has also helped me to see light and using amazing incredible light to set a mood or emotion.
I'm feeling blessed to be doing something that I love and also to be pushing myself creatively and growing personally as a creative individual...and what a great way to do it while working outdoors enjoying our beautiful city!

This past weekend I got to shoot coverage for one of the most incredible running events that happen in Vancouver. The Lululemon 2013 SeaWheeze Half Marathon is one of the largest half marathon races in Canada and having ran over a dozen half marathons myself, I have to say that Lululemon know how to do it right! From the pre-race events filled with massages, tattoo air-brushing, shopping and of course Yoga, the event is a tremendous testament to the spirit of fitness while having fun. It was capped off with a beautiful Sunset Festival & concert at Stanley Park. I had the privilege of working with some of the most amazing photographers & videographers that day. For us it was like running our own half marathon...getting up early in the morning, running around from one part of the course to the next, and then having to turn around amazing photos within hours after the race finished. Thanks to our incredible production manager Laura, who kept us on schedule, on track, and supported us throughout the day. You are amazing Laura and it was so much fun working with you!
Photos from the day from the photo team can be found on the SeaWheeze Facebook Page.
