I'm sure some of you may be thinking along the veins of Neighbors, the movie with Zac Efron & Seth Rogen when you read this title post. Alas it is far from that (sorry, no shirtless photos of Zac Efron here:). But I thought the theme of neighbours was extremely fitting for two weddings we shot this past March, as both seemed to coincidentally have a neighbours theme. And since it's raining in Vancouver today, let's start with Jemmy & Rick's wedding as it was pretty wet that day too from what I recall:) Rick was actually my next door neighbour for close to 7 years. During that time, we would say the occasional hello to one another over a white fence that divided our house and the house he was renting from. Rick was living with a bunch of bachelors (yes, a bachelor pad of sorts) and from time to time I recall they would have some pretty funny themed parties like the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party and the Prom Party(which I actually went to wearing my sister's old prom dress:)
So when Rick contacted me and told me he was getting married, I couldn't be more ecstatic for him. The bachelor who once lived in the bachelor pad would now soon be wed!
March was a little challenging to say the least when it came to the weather. Not only was it still cold outside, it was also very wet. So on a day like that, when rain is coming down downways, upways, and sideways, as a wedding photographer you need to roll with the punches and learn to make lemonade out of lemons! Which is exactly what we did...
Westside Church was the location of their ceremony. The church had just moved into their new building, which was the former Centre of Performing Arts. It was exciting to find out their wedding ceremony was actually the first wedding ever hosted inside! The foyer of the church is a gorgeous atrium and the architecture really reminded me of the interior of the Gugghenheim museum in New York. Now when it's this wet, there comes a point when you just need to poke fun at just how wet it is....Thankfully along with the indoor options at the church, we also had a great lobby to work with thanks to Jemmy's parents
Reception was at the Univeritys Golf Club and our wonderful friends at Wedding Design Studio did an amazing job with the decor. The WDS team also helped design the ceremony site and provided all the floral arrangements as well. Aren't they incredibly talented??So happy that this next door neighbour will now be making new neighbours in the house he now lives in with his new wife. Congratulations!
