Justin reached out to me online several months ago about planning a surprise proposal to his girlfriend Hannah while on a layover flight enroute to Houston from Taiwan. During the layover, he wanted to plan the surprise proposal during a visit through Stanley Park. He himself had visited Stanley Park last year and just loved the idea of documenting the proposal inside the beautiful trails while he proposed. I love surprises, especially when it comes to someone bending the knee! The wheels were set in motion, and we stayed in touch over the course of several months planning the location and the time of day we would be meeting for the proposal. Being an avid photographer himself, Justin wanted to ensure that the lighting was just right for photos when he popped the question:)
Proposal Day came, and Vancouver did not disappoint, showing off it's big guns with glorious blue skies, sunshine, and a dusting of snow on the ground. It doesn't get any better than this, and it would be a perfect day to take photos in the trails...except that morning I received a text message from Justin indicating that their flight from Taiwan was delayed and he was unsure whether there would still be sufficient light to take photos in the original location I had planned for them. They may need to cancel if the timing didn't work out. We quickly moved to Plan B, with me instructing him on a change of location once they arrived.
I was going incognito as a local tourist taking photos when they arrived. After pretending to ask for directions from me, I was able to instruct them down the right trail path for their final destination. The result? I think the photos speak for themselves, and Hannah was definitely surprised that Justin had planned ahead of time to have a professional photographer document such a meaningful moment for them both:)
They also had their friend who travelled with them (she was an accomplice and was in on the whole thing:). She stopped them at the location to take a photo and marked the spot where the proposal would take place.
Of course, Justin chooses a spot with awesome backlighting and great rim light around them...great work Justin!
After the proposal, we went around the park for some photos. It was Hannah's first time in Vancouver, so we couldn't help but make a drive around the park to take in the beautiful and iconic parts of the park.
It was such a thrill to have captured all the romance:) A huge congratulations to them as they embark on their wedding plans back home in Houston!
